ROUTE TO VINOTURISMO VILLA VERDICCHIO
Vinoturismo Villa Verdicchio in Cupramontana can be reached by car from the Autostrada Adriatico
(which runs from north to south Italy).
Near Ancona, take the Strada Statale 76 (SS76) from Ancona towards Rome.
There you take exit 15 Cupramontana – monte Roberto from where a beautiful panoramic route takes you along the SP9, five hundred and five metres uphill to the heart of the Castelli di Jesi.
Once in Cupramontana, stay on the SP9, but the road turns left down the hill back to Via San Bartolomeo. Follow the road for a few hundred metres until you can turn right into Via (or contrada) Ripa. Vinoturismo Villa Verdicchio is a little further on the left.
Attention: often the GPS tells you to turn right into Contrada Ripa as soon as you are on Via San Bartolomeo. You can, but it’s a tough descent on a narrow ‘strada biancha’ (gravel road).
We recommend the route we describe above as it is a lot more comfortable.
The nearest airport is Ancona Falconara where you fly with Ryan air from Brussels Charleroi and Düsseldorf Weeze, among others. This airport is a 25-minute drive from Cupramontana.
Alternatively, you can fly to Perugia in Umbria. You can also fly to Rome or Bologna and couple a city trip with a lovely holiday in Le Marche.
There are several car rental companies at Ancona airport:
Sicily by car, Autonoleggio Magellano, Autovia, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and Leasys

Is Villa Verdicchio located in a quiet area?
Villa Verdicchio is located in a very quiet area, surrounded by green vineyards, in the back of Cupramontana.
From the main road, Via San Bartolomeo, turn right into Via (or Contrada) Ripa. This is an old farm road that was used to reach the vineyards and fields.
The road runs alongside the villa, but is now only used by a single farmer, our two neighbours and many walkers and cyclists. So you can enjoy your holiday in peace and quiet!

You will also find delicious addresses in the neighbouring villages. If you want more, you can even find some starred restaurants on the coast! We will gladly give you our favourite addresses.
Keep in mind that Italians often eat a bit later. Most restaurants open for lunch and then close until dinner around 7.30pm.
Do I need a car in Le Marche?
Le Marche is a hilly region and Cupramontana is also at an altitude of 505 metres.
So you don’t escape the slopes, but by car or e-bike you can get almost everywhere.
The larger towns often have escalators to get to the higher-lying parts. The coastal towns have flatter centres.
Is Le Marche a touristy region?
Le Marche has wonderful tourist gems to visit.
The beautiful nature, medieval villages, many wineries, mountains, coast, lakes,…
Definitely don’t expect mass tourism in Le Marche.
It is still a fairly undiscovered region, so you will discover an authentic Italy. People certainly don’t speak English everywhere, but are very helpful and patient.
What is the climate like in Le Marche?
Due to its location between sea and mountains, the climate in Le Marche is very pleasant.
The best travel time for Le Marche is from May to October. During this period, you have warm temperatures and little precipitation. The highest average temperature in Le Marche is 27°C in July and the lowest is 6°C in January. In summer, although it can get hot during the day, it usually cools down nicely in the evening. We don’t usually need the air conditioning in summer.
Where are the wineries located?
They are definitely there! As many as 700 wineries.
They are just not as hyped as their better-known counterparts from Tuscany, Piedmont or Sicily.
Often they are small family-run wineries where the focus is on the product and not the marketing. Read our wine travel guide Le Marche for a good guide with great addresses of wineries and restaurants to visit in the different wine regions.
What is monte e mare?
Monte e Mare means ‘mountains and sea’. An often heard term in Le Marche and especially in the region perfectly situated between mountains and sea, like Cupramontana and thus Villa Verdicchio. You are in the middle of the wine region but also the beautiful beaches as well as the mountains are each about half an hour away. The chalk rock beaches of Numana and the beaches of Sengallia are about 40 Minutes’ drive through beautiful countryside.
Is Villa Verdicchio suitable for children?
Villa Verdicchio is aimed at adults who want to enjoy peace and quiet and can spare their small children for a few days. Children are welcome provided they are old enough to sleep in their own room. In fact, it is not possible to add a bed in the rooms.
What is there to do in the area?

Besides the many wineries in the area, you can also soak up some culture in the beautiful medieval villages, spend a day lazing by Lake Cingoli, spend a day on the Adriatic coast, go on a beautiful mountain hike, visit the caves of Frassassi, do a city trip in Jesi or Ancona,…

Is Villa Verdicchio far from Cupramontana?
Vinoturismo Villa Verdicchio is a few minutes’ drive from the centre of Cupramonata.
It is best to drive via the main road ‘Via San Bartolomeo’, a paved road that winds up to the village. This is a comfortable route to do by car.
You can also walk up Via Ripa to the village. Then it’s a 15-minute walk to the centre. This route is very narrow and fairly steep in places and it is a white road ‘strada bianca’, which means as much as a ‘gravel road’. It can be done by car, but especially walkers and cyclists use this route.
Is Villa Verdicchio a non-smoking accommodation?
Villa Verdicchio is a non-smoking accommodation. Because we want to give everyone the fresh air of ‘la campagna’ (countryside), both the rooms and the terraces are non-smoking. For those who cannot do without their cigarette, we have provided a smoking area in the garden.
